Some of my randomness from Ireland :)

What's upside down, the idiot or the car?
This is from my first rock cafe experience, where I got a little tipsy, and thought it would be a great idea to buy a t-shirt and get the bouncer to take my picture in front of the cool and crazy display! (note - if you've noticed it in nearly every photo, yes I do wear the hello kitty hoodie all the time!)

During the flight to Manchester the sky and the sunset was amazing, just so beautiful, I stared out the window and dreamed all the way home.

I took many more pictures - though no more came out. Of the whole film, sadly only about 4 made it out the camera alive.

ETA- Jan 2013 - Sadly I'd put my photos up on GeoCities, which got lost when the site closed.

Hey Hey,

Am home now, and really enjoyed the rest of my travels. I've been very tired these last couple of days so decided to take it easy and chill out while in Dublin. On Sunday afternoon I bumped into Ken, a mature student from Kenya who's been living at the hostel and I spent many hours with him learning to play pool. His stories and ideas were fascinating to listen to, from a development studies perspective as well as my own interest. I hope I'll make it to Kenya one day to see what it's like for myself.

That evening I was doing some more wondering around and stumbled upon a Hard Rock Cafe, I practically ran inside as I've never had the chance to check one out before. Tried an ice cream soda, am now hooked on them, mmmm so good, so much foam! Ordered a cocktail not realising how huge the size of the drink was, got a little bit too tipsy and ended up buying a t-shirt from the cafe shop and asking the bouncer to take my picture! (well it seemed like a fun thing to do at the time! Lizzie, what you like...)

Monday was filled with more wondering round the city (something I do a lot when I travel, I like to see everything I can and never tire of walking around) and went to see a film, March of the Penguins, a documentary about pengins on the South Pole. I have now put baby penguins and lots of ice on my Xmas list! They are so cute, especially when they get tired of walking and lie on their bellies to push themselves around!

I had a good time there, despite the very different style and pace of sightseeing to what I normally do. I don't think I would ever go back though, as for me Dublin didn't rate highly in my list of favourite cities. I felt it's becoming the new Amsterdam with the main attraction being coming over to get drunk. The city seemed really, hmmm, broken down? Drugs are a really big problem there, even when I was looking at some of the main monuments I saw someone snorting drugs - and this is in the middle of the main street. Outside the posher shopping areas the city seemed tired and run down. That's not to say Dublin isn't a great place to visit, it's just I didn't click with it much, though I guess it could be due to the fact that I want to travel to other places more, and I guess Ireland was always going to be a country just to check off from the "101" list anyway.

Will post pictures soon!

Well, after reaching the airport I felt a lot better and started getting all excited again, I get such a traveling buzz when the plane takes off. :) Had a very amusing trauma trying to get from the airport to the city centre and finding my hostel. Got off the bus at the completely wrong end of town, so far away from my intended destination that I was off the map!! Didn't mind so much as the city held a very magical disney feeling from the dark being broken by all the Christmas lights. Managed to trek to the hostel in about 45 mins, then went on to meet every American student ever who had decided to spend the past semester in Europe and are now traveling before heading back to the states. I'm sharing a room with 9 Americans and havn't met any other nationalities yet! I thought for some reason the hostels would be quiet at this time of year!

Not done much this morning, wondered round the city and done a bit of shopping. Having trouble finding things to do, all the sites are either closed today or I can look round beer factories...

Having a great time just being here, and not doing very much except meeting people and wondering around. :)

love and hugs to all,

Well I'm going in 3 1/2 hours, it's 4.30 in the morning and I can't sleep - having one of those moments where I'm thinking - Lizzie, what the fuck are you doing gallivanting off to Ireland so you can cross it off the list of countries you've been too. (Though I do want to see Dublin too!) Why didn't I just decide to go home!? I know when I get there I will love it and thoroughly enjoy carrying an over sized backpack, hand washing socks in the sink and eating cup a soups as my travel pan is at home and I'm too cheapskate to go to a restaurant. Right now though I guess I'm just nervous again, and I had the same thing before going to Eastern Europe, I dunno, maybe I just want to be home. Can't believe I haven't been there in 3 months.

Dad here is the details of the hostel I'm staying at, will call you when I'm there :) :

Avalon House
55 Aungier St
Dublin 2
Ph: 353-1-4750001

If Poppy, Hjaz or Liz A are reading this, then take note that I miss you like crazy and can't wait to see you again!!

love and hugs to all,
